Wine Cellar Installation in an Edwardian Property

This wine cellar formed part of a major refurbishment of our client’s Edwardian home.

The client contacted us well before the project start date, as the cellar was an integral part of the works and needed to be one of the first areas completed.

The space allocated for the cellar was the original basement of the house. However, significant preparatory work was required before the cellar fit-out could begin.

Because of this, all cellar designs needed to be agreed and signed off before any structural work took place. This included wall construction, basement tanking to the floor and walls, as well as the layout for climate control and electrical installations.

The client’s brief was for a traditional-style cellar, built using European solid and veneered oak. The design included a central island with a stone worktop, natural clay floor tiles, and double-glazed glass doors and panels to form the main entrance.

The cellar was designed to store around 3,000 bottles, mainly loose Bordeaux, along with a selection of Italian, Spanish and New World wines, including English sparkling wine. Storage was also required for wooden cases of Bordeaux wines, as well as loose and boxed port bottles.

Magnum bottles and the client’s two favourite Bordeaux wines were to be displayed. The client also collected wooden wine box ends featuring château branding and asked for these to be incorporated into the design.

The cellar was finished with a comprehensive LED lighting system, including layered mood lighting throughout, to complete the overall look.
